External Link Question

Hi all,

In my project, I have an external link to a task, and I was hoping to get
the data for "Baseline Start" from that file. But I can not. Is there a
setting somewhere
on which fields are part of the link and which fields are not?

Also, I was hoping to link to the top level of the project "line 0" to get
"Remaining
Work" for the project. That did not work.

My manager does not want to use Master file in this case, since we have many
files
and it takes time to roll them up.

We are using MSP2002 Proffesional.
Thanks,

When there is a link from one project to another project puts a dummy task
in the first project which has the name and some other information (not all
as you have seen) and internally stores the information about which project
and which task it refers to. It does the same in the other project. When you
view the projects alone, you do not have access to all the information about
that external task because it is not stored with the external dummy task.
When both files are open in a master project, then project hides the dummy
tasks so you do not see this issue.

There is nothing you can really do about it except for always working in a
master project or accepting that dummy tasks do not have complete
information. There are no settings which can change this behavior.
