FILE ACCESS OPTIONS

On any machine w/Office 2007 installed, if I have two users trying to get
into a single document stored on a network share, the 2nd person attempting
to open the document/spreadsheet recieves the message:"" File Not Found.
Check spellling or file path."

I understand that only one person at a time can open the file for editing,
however in previous versions, if I tried to open a file that someone else us
already using, I would be prompted letting me know the file was already
opened and given the option to "Open as Read-Only or Open a copy."

Now it simply gives the message "Filename cannot be found. Please check your
spelling or the path"

Hi Amy,

There are a couple of reasons you can get this message, including the way the 'open' action is written for a particular file type,
if the combined length of the folder-path plus file name is over 254 characters in Word (less in Excel), Unicode characters in the
file name.

I tested this using a shortfile name and short network path:
s:\share\word.doc

I get the same results, if a 2nd person tries to open it using Office 2007
app (excel/word)...they will get "file cannot be found, please check spelling
or path.

If I take the same steps w/the same file using Office 2003 or any previous
version, I am prompted w/ the file is already in use. would u like open read
only/open a copy...

This problem is only occurring w/the 2007 applications.
:(
