File Error: Data May Have Been Lost

Congrats! I wish I could say the same. I've been running 12.1.0 (080409)
for several weeks an still get "File error: data may have been lost" error
when opening some Excel files. I've had to keep both Excel 2004 an 2008 on
my computer, which is a pain, since you have to remember which version of
Excel you can use on different spreadsheets.

If it worked for you, I'm happy for you. I just wish that something would
be done for the rest of us.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, just knowing that some of your files
are reporting that some data may have been lost will not allow us to fix any
specific problems in Excel. Could you please provide us with more
information, or provide me with one or more files that exhibit this
behavior? Note that if you had previoiusly opened .xls files with hyperlinks
in 12.0.1 and then saved them out, they will still show the alert on open
and the links in the file will still be broken. Unfortunately, the fix we
provided for this problem in 12.1 cannot fix up any files that were broken
by saving in 12.0.1.

Thanks,

Pat

If Excel gave me more information, I would provide it. As I've stated in
this thread, all I get is the "File error: Data may have been lost" twice
while the file is opening, and then the message regarding macros.

The file has not been saved in any version of Excel 2008. I did not even
install it until the 12.1.0 patch was available, and opened no files prior to
that update.

The error does not appear to be regarding hyperlinks, though. When I open
the files in Excel 2004 and go to the Edit menu, the "Links" option is not
available (i.e., it is "greyed out.").

Still, I'll email you a copy of one of the problem files.

Thank you for sending the file separately. That will really help us
investigate this. If we can figure out what's going wrong with your file,
I'll post back to the newsgroup with any info I have.
