Files open in older version of Excel

Hi,

I have solved this problem once before but am now unable to find the details
of how I did it. Forgive the length, I will try to provide all the details
of the situation.

I am running Windows XP for Tablet PC, and have upgraded from Office 2003 to
Office 2007. When I originally did this (many months ago) I found that when
opening Excel files, either from email attachments or from the Windows
Explorer, Excel 2003 was being used to open the files rather than Excel 2007.
Additionally, I was getting an error message that starts "This file is not
in a recognizable format". I could click "Ok" though, and the file would
open. When opening attachments, I would get the same error, click "Ok", then
I would see two files, one being the intended file and the other being
something titled "PERSONAL" which was a bunch of jibberish (at least to me).

If I first open Excel 2007, then open a file from any source (email
attachment, Windows Explorer, Excel itself) I have no problems. I should add
that Excel 2007 file formats open in 2007, so I only have the problem when
trying to open Excel files which are from older versions of Excel.

I believe the problem was fairly easy to fix last time, just involved making
a small change to the registry or something similar, but I cannot locate the
information on the Microsoft website that will remind me how to do this.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
