finish-to-start dependancy doesn't show properly in gantt

Hi all,
this is propably some minor problem, but it seems i'm just not able to
figure it out:
when creating tasks and defining relations between them, the tasks keep
'their place' at the project startdate, thereby violating the dependency
which I had just created.
The tasks are fixed unit and or fixed work and i didn't specify further
constraints such as start dates etc and there are no resources assigned.

Thanks,

Hi Jan,

I went to a training for project 2 weeks ago, and one of the main things
they told us were "things" which you should not use. One of them was this
automatic calc. When scheduling it would give you such a bad schedule, it
could only be used as worst case scenario (and as a starting point for manual
tweaking).
How do you view this then?

Hi,

When you don't use calculation the best thing to do is to throw Project
away - it is mainly for that that you need it.
Maybe your teacher confused with Automatic Leveling which indeed is not to
be advised!
Hope this helps,

This has got to be a mix up with auto leveling.
Otherwise, this would be the strangest training in MSP ever heard of.

Jan, Trevor,
You are both right, i checked.. He was referring to automatic levelling, but
I misunderstood that.. Thanks for helping me out with this silly mistake..

Hi,

OTOH: I do recommend using's Project Leveling, just not all of the time
which is what theh automatic setting does; calling it by "Level Now" with
the Manual setting is not that bad at all!
