Finish Variance

I am researching a strange finish variance on a project. The Finish Date on
a task is 8/5/05 and the Baseline Finish is 8/5/05. The Finish Variance is
showing as
-0.03 days. This is occurring throughout the project on various tasks with
an overall Finish Variance of 21.66 days when it should only be 15 days. I
have been informed that the plan and tasks have been properly baselined.

How do I find out what is causing this strange variance? Could
predecessors/successors and/or the completion of tasks be a cause?

Thank you very much for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Hi Betsy,

The difference is somehow in the time of day these tasks are scheduled. This
can be due to actual data entered that are not full days (when working with
percentages this can easily occur!).
Best is to use a table that shows finish and baseline finish (such as the
variance table) and through Tools, Options, View, Date Format, show time of
day.

Thank you! After changing the date view, it made more sense. I could see
where the variance came from and was able to research further to find other
causes for the dates to change (predecessors/successors on milestone tasks),
thus causing the variances.
