In Microsoft Project 2000, is there a way to have the program automatically
flag for a user what tasks are about to have some/all of their resources go
on vacation? (This question is assuming vacation schedules have already been
entered into Microsoft Project)
Chet,
Sure, but it depends on what type of "flag" you want raised. As long as
tasks are honoring resource calendars (the default), a quick look at the
upcoming tasks on the Gantt Chart view should tell you if suddenly the
schedule is going down the tubes because everybody is headed to the
beach for two weeks.
You could display a graph showing Unit Availability of all selected
resources as a split screen with the Resource Sheet. Or, you could
probably do some type of look ahead filter applied to the most
appropriate view that shows what you want.
A couple other possibilities would be to use VBA to perhaps flag those
tasks that will have no work done during resource vacation time or to
export desired resource availability to Excel where various charts can
be constructed to give a quick overview of vacation impact.
There are lots of possibilities. If you can be more specific, we can be
more specific with a solution.
Hope this helps.
