followup to MS Pro 2003 login problem related to McAfee-please help!

Regarding the copied thread below -- a conflict between MS Project Pro
2003 and the McAfee Virus Scan:

We received the "hotfix" from MS to solve this problem relative to an
SP1 install (the hotfix only works with SP1). It appears to work.
However, we have one machine with a "base" install (no SP1) that has
OTHER instability problems as well.

My question has multiple parts:

1. Is SP2 (publish date 9/27/2005) indeed brand new (we first started
dealing with this SP1/login problem back August)?
2. Will SP2 resolve the McAfee virus scan conflict problem in addition
to any instability problems we are now experiencing with a "base"
install of MS Project Pro 2003 (no SP1)?

I would greatly appreciate some feedback on this.

Thanks,

We just did a reinstall of Project Server and Windows Sharepoint
Services on a single box using Windows Authentication. Problem is,
when Project Pro 2003 is launched and you are first prompted for your
login account on the pick list, here's what happens.

1. I select the login account and hit the connect button
2. Project Pro HANGS until I click the Cancel button
3. Project Pro is STILL running and the login account picklist is
still there
4. I select the same login account and click on the connect button and
it works!

This is consistent time after time after time on the desktop client.
You connect once, it hangs, you cancel, try again and it works. This
does NOT happen with the PWA piece. If you shut down Project Pro 2003
and start over, it does it all over again.

A colleague of mine over at another organization says they have run
into the same problem but on different machines.

Now, what we have found is that it is related to McAfee Virus
Protection. Our Tech Services people have tested this and when McAfee
is uninstalled from the machine, then the connect works the first time.
It makes sense since the other folks I talked about are having it
happen on some machines and not others.

Does anyone else out there know about this and whether or not there is
a bit we can "flip" in McAfee or elsewhere on the desktop that will
remove this problem -- without having to uninstall McAfee Virus
Protection?

Andy
Behaviour is caused by scriptscan function of McAfee virus scan 8.0,
however disabling the option does not resolve the problem. To resolve
the problem you need to unregister the scriptproxy.dll file of McAfee.
I believe there is a KB article 890736 on similar problem
