Project 2003 user login problem via PWA

I'm hoping someone can help with a problem I'm encountering. I've
setup a test environment consisting of Project Server 2003 SP1 and
Project Pro 2003 SP1. Got everything to work except I cannot get any
user whose account is setup as Project Server Authentication to log
into the Projet Web Access.

When I go to http://project/projectserver, a box appears asking for a
username and password. This works fine for Windows Authenticated
accounts. I've concluded that the dialog box will only accept Windows
Authenticated accounts. If I log in with a Windows account that isn't
setup for Project, I'll get the Project login screen and can then
login with a Project Authentication account. I've tried going to
http://project/projectserver/lgnps.asp but that still brings up the
login dialog box.

I've tried going into IIS and changing the ProjectServer virtual
folder to Enable Anonymous Access but doing that causes the Windows
dialog box to never appear, even when going to
http://project/projectserver/lgnint.asp but it does bring up the
Project login screen!

So, does anyone know how to make the Project login screen show up
without loosing the ability to get the Windows Authentication box? Any
insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you add your project server to the trusted sites in IE?

Your trusted sites settings should be configured User Authentication Logon =
"Automatic logon with current username and password"

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've tried that and still get the Windows dialog
box. I'm curious to know what other people have done to allow Project
Server Authentication accounts to log into PWA. I keep getting "You are not
authorized to view this page". Must be some settings with IIS?

The only time I have seen this is when the users is not part of the domain
that the project server is in (or when the server is not part of the
domain).

If either of these are the case you may need to enable anonymous access to
the project server virtual directory in IIS. (Though I would evaluate the
security impact of this with your network guys and the
gurus-who-know-more-than-me in this group.)

Immortal:

If IIS directory security is setup correctly, Windows authenticated users on
the LAN should never see a logon of any type. Using Project Server
authentication has different consequences and requirements depending on what
you're trying to accomplish in the way of authentication. Are you accepting
logons from outside the local domain? If so, it may be appropriate to put up
a second front-end running Basic Auth and SSL.
