when we type or open a text file it starts up with a script font even though we went in font dropdown & selected courier as defaut and informed us that normal.dot is going to be saved with new font , also we can not find our normat.dot file to delete or rename

normal.dot is initially a hidden system file in current Word versions and
will be found in the folder indicated at tools > options > file locations >
user templates.

If by text file you mean a .txt file, then I believe the default style in
..txt files is not Normal but Plain Text. Perhaps it is the formatting of
Plain Text that you need to change.

Hi, dk. In Word, click on Format | Styles and Formatting | <select the "Plain Text" style from the list of styles > | Modify | Format | Font | <choose the font you want> | OK | check the "Add to Template" box | OK. If you are prompted to save the normal.dot template when you close Word, say yes.

we are unable to do anything
when we open some text files it picks a style of right to left with a script style even we then pick the plain style it may only change the first line but not the complete file we tried deleting that style from the styles but again when we open the file that style pops up again with script right to left
