fonts and themes?

When I open an old (1 yr.) document, the font had changed from the original.
Why might this happen? My intention was to retain the original font. This
seemed to happen spontaneously!
Also, I now have a style and formatting choice in my toolbar.
Thank you, Mike.

Possible causes --

1) You no longer have the font on your computer. In which case Word will
substitute its best guess of the 'closest' font available.

2) You've got 'Automatically update document styles' ticked on the Templates
and Add-Ins dialog and the style definitions have changed in the underlying
template.

Style and formatting are normally present. If they weren't present before,
you were using a template that had them removed, and that template has now
changed. This is consistent with 2) above.

Have you changed computers or printers?

As far as the toolbar is concerned, you may have turned on a different
toolbar (under View>Toolbars)
