Footer not showing, but says it's set up.

I have a presentation that says a footer is set up to show the page number on
all but the first page, but it actually doesn't show up anywhere. I've
tried deleting and restarting, but to no avail. It came to me this way, so
it wasn't an original presentation that I am working with. Need to know how
to actually set up a footer to show the page number, but cannot get past what
is already supposed to be set up, but is not visible. HELP!
