footnote reference marks size

H

Helen

When I select a paragraph of text, including footnote
reference marks, and resize it, the size of the footnote
numbers changes to that of the main text - they're still
superscript, but are much too big (eg 11pt when they
should be 7 or 8). I changed the default font to Book
Antiqua, and fear that in fiddling around with the styles,
trying to do this, I've done something horrible to the
footenote thingy. Any help would be most gratefully
received - not relishing prospect of resizing 130 footnote
reference marks by hand.

Many thanks.

Hi Helen:

The best way to resize the overall paragraph is to modify
the style of that paragraph, perhaps Body Text.

You can control the size of the footnote reference by
modifying the style "Footnote Reference". If the number
is still too big (because of direct formatting of the
paragraph) -- say, the paragraph is 14 and the footnote
reference is still 14 when you want 10 --

You can do a Find and Replace:
Very important: You leave the text slots blank.

You set format attributes:
Find What: Style: Footnote Reference Font: 14 pt

Replace With: 10 point

Replace All

You get those attributes there by having cursor in the top
or bottom text slot, respectively, then going through
Format/Font or Format/Style. If you get excess
attributes there, click "No Formatting."

Hi Helen:

Just a little clarification: if you want to resize the
overall document, then you really want to modify Normal,
not just Body Text. You would modify various paragraph
styles if you wanted a mixture of font sizes throughout.

Thank you very much!
