forwarding emails are staying in outbox intermittently

forward emails composed and hung in the outbox.
If one removes the parenthesized email addresses and replaces with the <>
version, the mail can then be sent fine.

Any idea what may cause this? I bleieve these are cashed email address, or
they are coming from the GAL
