FP 2003 Publish Error

When I use the FrontPage publish utility I get an error stating, "unabable to
open site Mydomain.com - FP server extensions not installed, or file
contains characters \ or /..." but the FTP utility connects right up and
works just fine.
My efforts to solve the problem have been as follows:
1) unsinstalled FP 2003 and reinstalled FP 2002 (same error) and back again
to 2003
2) been assured by tech help that the extensions are installed on the
Windows web server
3) uninstalled and reinstalled the extensions just to make sure
4) finally changed hosting companies to a non-bargain brand host recommended
by Microsoft (myhosting.com)
All to no avail. Any ideas?

Post the actual current URL w/ the FP SE
Are you able to open the URL w/ FP as File Open Site or in IE browse to it and use File Edit w/ FP
