i set the width of form text box to 1 still it is
displayed as 4 in in preview or browser. i need it 1 or 2.

This is the way browsers behave, and there's nothing you
can do about it.

Anyway, a text box 1 charcter wide is usually
impractical. Most designers habitually provide slightly
oversize text boxes so visitors can edit values without
losing sight of what they're doing.
