Freeze Text Size

Lana Lewis

HI,

I use FP2002.

How do I freeze the text size so a viewer can not change
the text size in their browser.

Thanks,

The capability of browsers letting their users change
font size is an accessability issue. What if the user
can't see very well and requires large fonts in order to
view a site's contents? Would you want them to not be
able to view your site just because you think the fonts
have to be a particular size?

If you REALLY want the fonts to remain the point size you
pick (you won't like this) input your text in a graphics
program and save it as a gif file.

I personally suggest you keep your site user friendly and
allow the users the ability to set the font size to suit
their needs.

Lana,

I do agree with Rick on being very careful on how you fix
your fonts, but if you wish to do that the best way is to
use a style sheet.

From within the style sheet you would create the rules
for just about anything, hyperlinks, paragraph fonts,
bullet lists, etc..

After creating the style sheet (css) you would create a
link to it on the page (Format > Style Sheet Links)

If you have any problems or questions regarding css, just
post to the newsgroup, as many people will be able to
help you.

Hope it helps,
JDR

Thanks to both ....
I agree on desire to leave viewing flexible for user ....
my problem has been my pages look so different from
different browsers based on that particular browser
settings (i.e. ...view text size at medium all looks
great --- view text size changed to large or largest then
whole page looks awful -- sections of the page text
overlap etc) so .... i am trying to think of other ways to
solve that problem. I think I'll have to figure out how
to resolove the problem and not freeze the text size.

Hi Lana,

It is a fine line and I know exactly what you mean.

Try experimenting with a style sheet that offers a font
that is acceptable to you as well as user friendly.

The bottom line is who is the site for, if you are
designining for a client, friend, etc.., discuss the
options with them. If it's your own personal site, then
the final say is yours.

Good Luck with the design,
JDR
