from pop to exchange

I want to move from pop mail to a hosted exchange server without losing
anything, and also move from outlook 2002 to 2003, and I keep getting
different stories on how to do this successfully.

The MX records have been changed at my new web host to point to the new
exchange server (although I haven't made the DNS changes yet), but I'm
having a hard time figuring out how to get all of my calendar, contacts,
mail, etc. over to the new outlook and new host as well as the timing of
everything. Since no DNS changes have been made, my old outlook 2002 is
still receiving lots of changes in the form of email, calendar, contacts,
etc.

Support at the exchange host told me today that I need to first make the DNS
change, and after the changes are effective, THEN install outlook 2003, set
up the exchange mailbox, and import everything. That sort of makes me crazy
since I can't really plan anything around it. I'm also confused about the
order in which everything should go.

Any thoughts or comments or suggestions? Thanks in advance...Jan

they are right - import the old stuff. After you make the changes and the
new mailbox is getting email, connect the old pst to your profile using
file, open, outlook data file. Anything you want on the server, drag to the
folders in the new account.

Thanks Diane. So does the following plan make sense? Anyone see any flaws?
Do I really need to wait for the DNS changes to take place to install
outlook 2003? Thanks all...Jan

sync phone
forward mail from existing account
close outlook 2002 (no more changes)
change DNS
(meanwhile, use webmail at old email host)
wait for DNS changes to take place(?) (why wait?)
uninstall outlook 2002
install outlook 2003
configure exchange mailbox in 2003
import old items from outlook 2002 pst
