Gantt Chart 'Overlay' from Project

Does anyone have an idea of how to create a "fly-in" PowerPoint Gantt chart
that could include tasks that 'overlay' one schedule with another? In the
old days of overhead projectors, a person could take an acetate sheet and
build one chart from several by 'overlaying' each on top of the others. I am
trying to do a similar thing with Project 2007 and/or PowerPoint, Excel or
Visio.

Ah, one of the unintended consequences of the computerisation of the
world is the death of over-head projectors. And what a brief life they had!

You certainly cannot do this all with Project, but you could use Project
to create a set of different graphic of a Gantt chart (via the little
camera icon). Or generate the graphics with Viso, Excel, or whatever.
Heck, draw on paper and scan. Then use a tool (like Gimp or Photoshop)
to edit the images to the same size, some transparency, etc.) Then use
PowerPoint's ability to make animations to fly the images into position
and be the container for the presentation.

But at that point, I'd probably try to find the acetates, a spare bulb
for the projector, and do it the old way. Or try to get out of the
committment to do such a "fancy" presentation!

Let's assume you want to show three tasks on a schedule and have them appear
1 at a time in PowerPoint.

In Project, filter your schedule so only the first task shows. Use the copy
picture wizard to save a bitmap. Refilter and save two more pictures. You
now the three images you need.

In PowerPoint, you can make three slides that will be identical, with the
exception of the three images. As you advance the slides, it will look like
the new tasks appear one at a time.

There is another way to do it. What we do is create a Flash Movie by
recording the keystrokes in MS Project and saving as a flash movie. The
movie is inserted into PPT or another tool. You need something like Camtasia
or similar to do it. We use Flash Demo Builder

Jim,
Thanks for the great suggestion. I just happen to have Camtasia loaded and
hadn't thought about its use for this project. If you have an example or
site I could go to for more info, I'd appreciate it. I will rate this post
as it has great merit and value!
