Generic Resource Transfer between PM and RM

Currently we are implementing Project Server 2007. We are having issues with
generic resource assignments. I am looking for anyone's help and suggestions
to do the following:

In our organization our project manager's create new projects and build the
project plan starting with the creation of tasks. The PM is to only assign
generic resources as we do not want them assigning specific names from the
enterprise resource pool. We use a template for all PM's to build their
project around a series of predefined project phases. The resource pool has
already been created, and we did not give the project managers the ability to
build a team on a project using the resource pool. We then want notification
to be sent to the Resource Managers based upon the RBS structure of the
generic resource so the RM then obtains access to the project to assigne
resources. The RM will then publish the project with the resources being
committed.

Thus far we have been unsuccessful with setting up the notification to a RM
saying generic resources have been proposed and allowing the RM access to
that specific project.

I appreciate any help on this subject matter.

You cannot do what you want using the default functionality of Project
Server 2007. To address your needs, you would need to do custom software
development to force the system to generate an e-mail message to the RM when
the PM builds a team with Generic resources. Furthermore, if you need for
the RMs to actually publish the project after staffing it with human
resources, then each of your RMs will need Project Professional 2007 as
well, and you will have to "tweak" the permissions of the Resource Managers
group. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale,

I appreciate your prompt response, I had already tweaked the default
security template for the RM's to allow them to publish and we have copies of
Project Professional. Do you have suggestions for developing this software
coding? Is this a common macro to write to generate an email or at least
force a 'task update' on the RM user home page? If this is not an easy macro
to write, what suggestions do you have to get around this issue?

I would suggest you post your questions about custom software development in
the microsoft.public.project.developer newsgroup and allow our developer
friends to give you guidance. Hope this helps.
