Go to slide name and not #?

I have a presentation where I have a menu that has buttons that go to
specific slides. Those slides each have a button that takes you back to
the main menu. The problem is PowerPoint goes to specific slide
numbers, so if you add a slide in the middle, all the numbers change
and the buttons no longer take you to the correct slide.

Is there a way to have PPT take you to a slide name instead of a number
so that it will take you to the correct slide even if the slide number
changes?

Thanks!

This should work the way you want it, based on my interpretation of your
description. Are you linking to a slide number within the same presentation, or
are you linking to another presentation? What version of PowerPoint are you
using?

It should work the way you want. What version of PowerPoint are you
using? Do your slides have a Title area? How are you linking (Insert >
Hyperlink? Action Settings? VBA? other?)?

Thanks for the reply, both of you.

I select the button, then I go to the Hyperlink palette and I then
select "On mouse click" "Slide...".

I'm using PowerPoint 2004 for OS X. I am going to specific slides in
the same presentation.

I think I know what the problem is. The slides don't have titles yet.
Once they have titles, does PowerPoint use the title to identify the
slide so that I can change the order and it will still keep the link?
Thank you so much for your help!

Yes, I believe putting the titles in will solve this problem. Note that
if you don't want the titles to show up on the slide during the show,
just drag the title area off the viewable portion of the slide.

On a PC you don't need to have a slide title. Try posting your question to the
Mac newsgroup for a Mac specific answer:

You are right. It seems to work on my PC in PPT 2003 without titles, and
it seems to work on my Mac in PPT X without titles. I don't know if 2004
screwed this up (I don't have 2004), or if something else is going on,
but I still think the titles will help.
