Graphics not appearing in IE6. OK in all other browsers

S

stevej

I am working on a site: www.hpllaw.com , and am a novice with FrontPage. In
fact, I kind of inherited this site to work on from someone else.
All browsers except for IE6 displaythe site OK.
Any ideas from folks more advanced than I am would be appreciated.

I don't have IE 6 on this machine.
It's a nice looking site. Tell us what the symptoms are in IE 6 with the
graphics.
One place to start is an HTML report:
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http://www.hpllaw.com:80/
I also ran into this earlier today:
http://code.google.com/p/ie7-js/
but it's probably not what you require.

Like Chris, I don't have IE6, but the pages are identical in IE5.5 and
IE7.

If you are using FrontPage 2003 you may wish to convert your DWT from
Dreamweaver to FrontPage -

Change <!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/subpage_column.dwt"
codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
to <!-- #Begintemplate="/Templates/subpage_column.dwt" -->

Change every InstanceBeginEditable to #BeginEditable

Change every InstanceEndEditable to #EndEditable

Change InstanceEnd to #EndTemplate

The problem manifests as this:

logo-hpl.gif, header_back.jpg, content_back.jpg, photo-home.jpg, bkg-pg.gif
do not appear in any IE6 browser. Also, the link bar is missing.
Only column_back.jpg appears in the column on the right.
Thanks
Steve

Ronx,

I made the changes that you suggested, but am still having the same problem
with any IE6 browser.

I can see the problems in IE6, but I cannot see the cause. Everything
loads in IE5.5 and 7, FireFox and Opera 9, but there is lots missing (as
you described) in IE6.

it's a real strange problem.
rename those photos so that there's no upper case letters, spaces, or
dashes, etc.

I renamed the photos as you suggested by Chris to no avail. I have since
reverted back to the original names. Any other suggestions?

Where is the dwt? ... /Templates/subpage_column.dwt
You also have the same image both in the images folder and in the root.

I have got the images to display in IE6 - but only by removing the
absolute positioning and rearranging the code so the <div>s appear in
the right order. The display is almost identical to FireFox and IE7,
and your original.

The CSS (css/style.css) has an error - there is no such thing as
float:both;

Ronx,

Thanks for figuring it out. I am a network guy, not a programmer, so I'll
have to research how to do what you have found to work. I'll fix the css
error.

I copied the code and file and will make the changes later. Thank you for
taking the time to do this. Also, thank you, Chris, for your input.
I will post later how it worked out.
