Groove Newbie question

Hi,

I would like to know if this is possible with Groove and if it is can
someone point me to a good document(s) on how to get started.

I have a number of techs who work from virtual offices with their notebooks.
We have centralized servers for Exchange, files etc. I want all these techs
to be able to share the client files (one directory per client) when they are
on the road. If one tech updates a file for a client it needs to go to the
other techs so that they can have it when they go to that client next.

If one tech creates a workspace and invites others how will the others find
him when he is a some client site and not on the corporate network? Am I
missing something?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks
Goran

Groove works on almost any network.
I will not go to deep into how groove communicates but lets say that if you
can open up a web-page Groove will work.
Groove uses relay server(s) for communication and getting information about
your peers and how to communicatie with them.

That is the beauty of Groove, It always works!!!!

Yes I figured it must use some sort of servers. Do I have to have a server in
my office for it to work? The way that I look at it is if I do something on
my notebook when I am out of the office how is it going to have to find its
peers (who may also be out on the road and behind firewalls) so that it can
share the documents.

I think I need to know what fo I need on the server in the office which
would act as the hub of all the notebooks? Or do I have this concept wrong?

Thanks
Goran

Microsoft runs public Relay Servers, so if Tech1 makes an entry in a
Workspace and all the other Techs are offline, the Relay Server will get the
entry and hold it and when the other Techs come back online, the change will
be synced to their Workspaces. You don't have to have any kind of server.
You could have another workstation in your office that you leave on 24/7 and
have it run Groove too and it would act as a peer and serve basically the
same purpose as the Relay Server. I've got 12 people in my group and we all
work out of our own houses and sync files between ourselves with no problem.

Goran, just to clarify, the whole point of Groove is that YOU DO NOT NEED all
these servers! Just set up the workspaces, share them, and the rest happens
automatically. As the others said, part of what you are getting is system of
relay servers that automatically takes care of synchronizing all of the users
and their data.

It is a beautiful system that hopefully Microsoft will keep alive.
