Dear Joe,

Based on my experience, this issue may be caused if your Team Direction
component has not been installed sucessfully.

Since then, please let us refer to these steps and then test the results.

1: Please let us use Grooveclean without any switch.
=======================
1. Right-click on the Groove icon in the system tray, and choose Exit Groove
(Shut down Groove in 2.x version).
2. Click the Windows Start button and choose Run.
3. Browse to C:\Program Files\Groove Networks\Groove\Bin and choose
GrooveClean.exe
4. In the Run box, the command line, should type:
C:\Program Files\Groove Networks\Groove\Bin\GrooveClean.exe
5. Click OK.
After these steps, please let us restart the computer normally and then test
the results.

For more information about using Grooveclean, refer to the following technote:
How to use GrooveClean.exe to clear communications queues or remove all
Groove data
http://www.groove.net/support/kb/detail.cfm/docnum/TCN-00312

After these steps, please let us test the results.

If the problem still persists, then please let us run an over install of
Groove:
=================
A: Please shutdown the Groove on the machine.
B: Please download and run the installation from the following location:
http://components.groove.net/Groove/DailyBuilds/latest/OCI/Setup.htm

Over installing will not remove any licenses or remove any account or space
data for your Groove account. There is also no need to uninstall first.
Restart the computer once the installation is complete. Groove will have been
added back to the startup and will load. Log in to the account.

After these steps, please test the results.

Hi Joe,

Based on my experience, According to the error message, this issue is mostly
caused by:

1. The User is not using the latest version of Groove Virtual Office
(version 3.1a Build 3.1a.2374).

2. The schemas.xss is read only, when the User try to start Groove.

3. If the User is using the latest version of Groove, first they need
administrator permission to install Groove application; and the Groove
Install Valuator utility (GrooveIV) will be run at the end of each platform
installation. This utility will attempt to silently repair the following
known problem areas:

Failed DLL registration
Read-only XSS files
Problems in the Groove hive including missing registry values, or value that
point to invalid directories

The utility also detects:

Missing DLL files or dependencies
Mismatched DLL and EXE versions
Missing XSS files

If the GrooveIV never run, the error may happen.

Therefore, we need time to do the trouble shooting to narrow down this
issue. Please let the End-User perform the following steps on her computer:

Step 1: Over install Groove
=======================
Please try an over install of the latest version of Groove from the
administrative Windows account and then a reboot in that account. Then, log
on her user account and launch Groove to see whether this issue is resolved.
Note: There is NO need to uninstall first. Over installing will not remove
any licenses nor will it remove any account or space data.

Please go to the following installation URL to over install the latest
version of Groove:
http://components.groove.net/Groove/DailyBuilds/latest/OCI/Setup.htm

If this issue still persists, please perform next step:

Step 2: Check the schemas.xss file
==========================
1. Navigate to the folder "C:\program files\groove networks\groove\data"

2. Right mouse click on the file schemas.xss and choose Properties.

3. Deselect the checkbox labeled "Read Only".

4. Start Groove. If she still receive the error message, log off the
current account, and then log on as an administrator who has permission to
write to the schemas.xss file. Check the properties of the file again to
deselect the "Read Only" box.

What's the result?

Step 3: Read and check the Groove running mode:
==========================================
Please read the following KB and refer to the steps in it to check this
issue carefully:

Error message when you start Groove: "Cannot open database
(null)/data/schemas.xss(80070003)"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922187

Is this issue resolved?
