Having resources role up or summarized.

I have a project with sub tasks that I have resource loaded. I want to know
how my resources are used to complete the entire task. I.E the task is
report (outline number 1.2 sub task to the main project). Sub tasks 1.2.1,
1.2.2, 1.2.3- research, draft copy, final copy. I can see the hours to
complete tasks 1.2.1 etc., but I can't find a way to see how my resources
hours are used to complete task 1.2. I like to budget my projects per lower
level tasks - but track the resource usage per up level tasks.

I'm afraid this is not possible without the help of a VBA procedure.
