Hello Guys,
I have question in MicroSoft Word. I am trying to prepare a
document where i need to use headings.

I mean i need something like below
*****************

Table of contents

Overview ....................................... 1
Assumptions......................................3
Requirements.....................................4

*****************

and if i click on overview by holding ctrl key, that should be able to take
me to page 1. I don't know the exact terminology for this type of headings.

Can anyone let me know as to how do we do it in MS Word.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't know what they're "officially" called butt, round here, they're known
as 'Internal Document Hyperlinks' (IDH). TTBOMK, I don't believe it's
possible from within Word (though, TBH, I've never tried). It is possible
with Acrobat, though, but that would mean spending £400 on a separate
application! What version of Word are you running? It might be possible with
newer versions.

This is easily accomplished by utilizing the Heading styles and
inserting a Table of Contents field.

Apply Heading 1 to text for the first level of your TOC, Heading 2 for
the second level, etc. Once the Heading styles have been applied then
go to Insert/Reference/Index and Tables and insert a Table of
Contents.

By default the TOC will hyperlink to the corresponding heading but
there is an option for hyperlinks in the TOC dialog box if don't want
them to be added.

When the TOC is inserted, hidden Bookmarks are added to the document
in order to enable the hyperlink capability.

Note should you need to update the TOC field, right-click the field
and select "Update Field" - do not delete and insert it again.

If you wish to replace the TOC do not delete it in the document. When
you insert a new TOC field Word will ask if you want to replace the
existing TOC.

This is important due to the Bookmarks that are generated for the TOC.
If you delete the field then the Bookmarks are not removed and there
is a limit on the number of Bookmarks in a document. Granted the limit
is fairly high but if you aren't aware of this then it can easily be
reached.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
