Help with formatting a document

Hello, I am trying to fromat a document without having to retype it. I have
a couple problems with the template I am working with and I ws hoping you
could make some suggestions...I received an outline of a study in Word 2003
andit is really just a cut and paste of another document --the author created
a table of contents with hyperlinks (to nothing) that provide the layout.
For example the first entry is "1.0 Introduction". The paragraph headings
are all numbered and now my job is to populate this document with data from
multiple authors and start proceeding from the table of contents to the
actual pages, create identical headings, and paste in the associated draft
literature associated with the paragraphs. So...

1) I tried to copy the table of contents and remove the hyperlinks and
create placeholders throughout the document. The bullets are numbers that
are all supposed to be all left aligned. IS there a way to make the numbers
the way I want it? Do I have to go line for line and change the numbering to
match somehow?

2) When I went to edit the TOC field, the TOC is all screwed up...it didn't
recognize any of the sub paragraphs (1.1 or 1.1.1. ) How do I fix that?

3) Can I get rid of the hyperlink on the TOC? That just helps the reader
toggle to the associated section right?

4) Maybe I should just junk the TOC and after fromatting my paragraphs
create the TOC to recognize the headings?

Thanks in advance,

Use the supplied ToC to create the required Headings.
ie. Paste the ToC as unformatted text into your new document (which is based
on the new template you want to use).

Apply the appropriate Heading style (ie Heading 2 for the 1.1 numbers, etc.

Then create a new ToC based on these new Headings.
Hope this helps.
