HELP with Office XP

[Baffled by Science]

I have tried to load Office XP onto my new laptop several times, but each
time I open a program in office I get an error simply saying the usual found
a fault must shut down, and then word, or what ever did not open correctly,
open in safe made only. I am using an XP Pro machine so I was wondering if
there is a registry problem?

I have unistalled Office several times and reinstalled but the problem
persists.

any pointers, please.
