Help with office

I posted in this group for help with a problem I and other tech's felt might
be a problem with Microsoft Camera and Scanner Wizard.You may if you desire
read the post from Tom C about Microsoft camera and scanner wizard. As of
yet it has not been answered. I have tried hard to respect the people who
offer help. I find this to be a lack of respect to me.I always try to
research my problems myself first before coming to ask for help and I also
have allot of resources to go to. However I have not found a fix as of yet.
The problem with the wizard not working properly started when I installed
office 2003. If I uninstall office 2003 and re-install 97 it works.Is it
possible that I lost some files when doing the install of 2003 office if so
were can I solve my problem at. O r is this a problem with office 2003
..Please understand I am not a computer wiz kid,just a businessman trying to
fix a problem and I assure you any help would be very much appreciated.

Many folks here probably have read your post but are unable to offer any
assistance as:

a) they do not have this problem
b) may not use the Camera and Scanner application
c) are unable to reproduce the problem to be able to offer a solution,
and/or
d) just have less time to spend on solving problems in which they have no
interest.

This is a peer-to-peer news group, meaning that everyone here, Including Mr.
Lawrence, volunteers their time to help others as they can. Even Mr.
Lawrence, a Microsoft employee, volunteers his time as there is no mandate
for Microsoft employees to spend xx number of minutes/hours/days answering
questions here. They have a Product Support Staff that is well paid to do
this already.

So, bottom line, if you want immediate assistance with your problem, contact
Microsoft Product Support Services, either through a web incident or a phone
incident. If you are willing to wait for someone to reproduce your problem
and provide an answer for free in the news group, then you will have to just
wait.

As for respect, that has nothing to do with your question. We don't know
you or your company. You could be a serial killer who is unable to get
bulleting to work in Word and asks for assistance. We don't judge the
people who come here for assistance (unless they are boneheads who post
"Please help with Word" and nothing else). All we do is look at the
questions for which we may be able to provide an answer and post the
solution if we know it..

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I do not use the Office Camera and
Scanner Wizard - I use third party programs for all of my camera and
scanning needs.

I was just replying to your general complaint about a lack of assistance in
this news group and avenues you can take to solve your problem if it is of
immediate need.

Perhaps someone else can help you with your problem. I just don't like to
leave the impression that this is a 24 hour help desk.

Milly, Perhaps you would be so kind as to share with me what you use it
could very well be that I need to change the way I am doing things. It would
seem by everything I can find that this is not something that is going to go
away soon.

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

I have a Lexmark all-in-one that comes with a program to allow me to scan
images to Word. I also have a Canon CanoScan scanner that will do the same
when using their CanoScan Toolbox. Both will let me scan to Word (easily
transferred to PPT) as well as send as a Fax.

Many scanners/all-in-one printers (the ones with the flatbed scanner,
printer, etc.) come with installation disks that will install the programs
to allow what you want.

As for acquiring the images from the camera, I find Jasc Paint Shop Pro does
a fine job to allow me to edit the image in their program and then
copy/paste into Word. I can save the image and select it when using
Insert->Image in any program.

Oh,Milly
Thank you for being so kind to me . I really appreciate you taking the
time to answer me. I believe I will look into some of these products that
you use. I am so new to these computer problems and issues,somehow I thought
what I had bought would always be enough or at least for awhile Hahahaha
that was naive of me mmmmm well you are very kind and I do thank you so much
for your efforts.

The camera is a Sony DSC-P71. I use a Lexar Media RW102 Rev.B card
reader, and I have a CD for the card reader but no CD for the camera..Thank
you for taking a interest in my problem.

| || I have a Lexmark all-in-one that comes with a program to allow me to
|| scan images to Word. I also have a Canon CanoScan scanner that will
|| do the same when using their CanoScan Toolbox. Both will let me
|| scan to Word (easily transferred to PPT) as well as send as a Fax.

|| Many scanners/all-in-one printers (the ones with the flatbed scanner,
|| printer, etc.) come with installation disks that will install the
|| programs to allow what you want.

|| As for acquiring the images from the camera, I find Jasc Paint Shop
|| Pro does a fine job to allow me to edit the image in their program
|| and then copy/paste into Word. I can save the image and select it
|| when using Insert->Image in any program.

When I run into scanner/camera problems, I usually suggest the following
to remove the camera and reinstall it. Note that the Scanner and Camera
wizard wants to see only one of a camera or scanner connected (not
installed) at one time. Sometimes one of each will work, but since
scanners and cameras are TWAIN devices, TWAIN wants to monopolize and
does not share well, if at all.

Anyway, connect the camera. If the wizard starts, cancel it. Go to
scanners and cameras and remove the camera. From Add/Remove programs,
remove all camera-related software, if any, including TWAIN related to
the camera. In device manager, select View/Show hidden devices. Remove
anything related to the camera. Shut down and disconnect the camera.
Reboot. Install any driver/software before connecting the camera. Then
connect the camera. It should be recognized again. Hopefully.
