help with PDF and word

I know how to convert a word document to PDF however, if
someone else sends me a PDF document, how do i sign it
and send it back in PDF format?

What are some options in doing this? For example, can i
print the PDF document and then sign it and scan it
through and save as a word document and then convert it
back to a PDF?

Do they have to be digitally signed?
