Holidays & assigning resources using Task Information box

Hi

I have a resource that is assigned to a task when I know she is on holiday.
If I assign the resource using the resource column in the entry table, or the
assign resources button or the combination view it will (as I assumed it
would) reschedule the task to be started when she comes back from holiday.
However if I assign the resource using the task information box Project
reduces the duration of the task to zero days. I have checked this on
Project 2000 and 2003 and it happens on both versions.

I realise there may be a logical explanation for this , so my question is
why does this happen?

Should I not use the task infromation box for assigning resources?

Thanks

Hi Jane,

I'm afraid I cannot reproduce *exactly* what you are seeing but perhaps
close.

If I assign a resource to a Fixed Duration task (regardless of
assignment method used) during time set as non-working time on the
resource's calendar, the *work* for the task is zero. The duration
stays at 1 day and the task does not shift to the next working day on
the resource's schedule.

For fixed units and fixed work tasks, the task start shifts as expected.
Is there any chance that the task in question is fixed duration?

There should be absolutely no difference in the effect you see based on
*how* you assign (Assign Resource button, task form, task information
form, resource name field).

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
