Holidays falling at weekends

If a holiday falls at a weekend, does MSP 2007 automatically schedule the non
working day for the following working day or does this have to be inputted
manually?

For example, I am trying to set New Years day as a non working day for a
project spanning 2009-2012. 1 Jan 2010 falls on a Friday, but then 1 Jan 2011
falls on a Saturday and 2012 on a Sunday.

Instead of setting an exception with a yearly recurrence pattern, should
each New Year holiday be entered separately? For example entering New Year
2011 as Monday 3rd January instead of 1st as this is the first working day
after Saturday 1st?

I am new to MSP so any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

When you use the new functionality in Microsoft Project 2007 to set up
recurring holidays, the software will allow holidays to occur on a Saturday
or a Sunday, and will not automatically reschedule the holiday to occur on
the preceding Friday or following Monday. For example, in the US, New
Year's Day, Christmas Day, and Independence Day can all occur on a weekend.
In spite of this, I recommend using the recurring holidays approach.

Keep in mind, however, that every company has its own policy for handling
holidays that occur on a weekend. Therefore, when this occurs, you should
create an additional instance of the holiday according to your company's
policy. For example, if Independence Day occurs on a Saturday, create an
additional instance to show that the company recognizes the holiday on the
preceding Friday. Hope this helps.
