Hours worked on task

Hi all,

I'm trying to work this out in project. Our jobs are a fixed number of
hours and not a fixed
duration. We also each have about 5 - 10 jobs on
the go at one time so everyone's time is divided up a lot throughout the
weeks. What is the best way to do this in project? Is it to use Fixed
Work, Effort Driven setting? Is it to fill in the resource plan with
the squares in it with how many hours we work on it each week? I've
been having a lot of trouble, for example, getting the program right
when I input that someone's task is to spend 3 hours per week with a
certain client until the end of the year. It isn't really fixed work,
it's just ongoing consulting every week.

Any help that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and regards,
Angus Duncan

I'd recommend making your tasks fixed work, effor driven like you said. For
the weekly tasks you talk about have you tried making them recurring tasks?
If this doesn't work and say you know a resource spends 10% of their time
doing weekly tasks, just assign them at 90% to their other tasks. You should
avoid filling in the timephased grids since goes against Project's scheduling
engine and will cause you issues.

Try my add-in - I built it so that effort and duration are disconnected and
one does not affect the other. If you download my manual you can read about
my thoughts in the "General Advice for the Ranger User" section
