How can I access a data stick

I have word documents on a data stick which I am unable to open in Word. I
have tried searching, but the result only shows hard disc files, even when
extended. If F drive is selected it asks for the disc to be inserted .
Documents contain images. Any ideas?

Does Programs/Accessories/Windows Explorer show the data stick as present? If
it does, it might be worthwhile to use it to copy files around before you
attempt to open them in Word

Data stick does not appear to exist..... the pc usually recognises when new
"hardware" like a camera is added, but just asks for the removeable disk to
be added. I have tried a re-boot, but it did not make any difference.
