How can I close the Outlook window without logging off?

I want to be able to close the Outlook window (x out), without having the
program close. It works with Instant Messengar. On MSN IM, you can close
the main window, but the IM icon is displayed in the bottom right hand corner
and the program is still running.

Well you cannot Amy. The X is a close. I believe the same thing can happen in Messenger but an option gives you the ability to use X as a minimize to the System Tray. No function such as that in Microsoft Outlook any version. If you want to Minimize to the System Tray, then Microsoft Outlook 2003 does that natively although uses the _ not the X. For any other version you will need to get a third-party tool such as TrayIt! (free).
