How can I reduce the file size of a Microsoft Project file?

I have created a new project, setting up the tasks, predecessors etc.

Every time I update it, the file size gets bigger, such that it is difficult
to email out. I notice that if I zip the file, it reduces the file size
dramatically.

Is there a way to remove the 'wind' in the project file.

I am using MS Project 2002.

Corruption.
