How can I save a powerpoint presentation as a pdf file?

You would need an Adobe Acrobat reader/writer that has convereters from word
documents. Then you can import your PPT into word using copy/paste.

Another freebie:
Download OpenOffice.org (www.openoffice.org). Open the presentation in OOO's
presentation program and click the Export Directly as PDF button on the
topmost toolbar.
