How can I select and move or delete multiple tasks at once?

R

Reba

I have just started with a new verison of MS P2003 and it is not letting me
select more than one task to click and drag, cut and paste, or delete. It is
making me do them one at a time.

Any one know what setting / option I must have accidently changed?

Thank you,
Reba

Hi Reba,

I am running MS Project 2003 with service pack 2. I am able to select
multiple tasks (with either click and drag to select or click and CTRL
click) and delete, cut and paste. There is a setting for "allow cell drag
and drop" on the Edit tab of the Tools>Options dialog box. Other than
making sure that option is enabled (checked) and all service packs are
installed, nothing else springs to mind.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Mike (and Julie if you read this)

Thank you both for your comments. I don't think I was clear. I know how to
do it, but Project is not letting me. I just started using a laptop with MS
Prj 2003, on my desktop, last week, I could do it.

I do have the allow drag and drop option turned on.

At one point I tried indenting and outdenting tasks, that helped for a few
line items. It really seems to be trying to prevent me from removing all
subtasks of an item.

It's very frustrating :) Thank you for any other suggestions.

Hi Reba,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

We need to discover whether your project is at fault, whether it is Project
at fault, or whether it's your PC. Does the symptom occur with other
projects on this PC? Does it occur with this project on other PCs? Does it
occur with other projects on other PCs? Does it still ocur on a new
project?

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))

Mystery solved! When they gave me the laptop they installed MS Project
Standard, not Professional. We changed the version yesterday and based on
very quick "testing" seems to have resolved the problem!

Now at least we know if it happens to someone else :)

Thank you so much for your time and help.

Hi Reba, you're welcome, :),

If you are now using professional, next time you might consider posting on
the server newsgroup. Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project Newsgroups. FAQs,
companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at this
web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hi Reba,

Glad to know you discovered a solution. However, MS Project Standard and MS
Project Professional version differences shouldn't be the problem. My
*guess* would be that the laptop didn't have SP-1 installed for Project.
Without Project Server involved, there is no difference between Standard and
Professional.

Hope this helps.
