How Can I Tell If An Office CD has been Activated

Hello.
My friend has a couple Microsoft Office 2003 Pro CD's that he wants to sell
me. They are still in the shrink wrap, the logos and product key stickers
look legit and he says they have never been activated.

Is there a way to enter the product ID in and find out if they have ever
been activated? W/O actually installing and then going throught the
activation process?
