currently The resource should change the "Remaining Time" field in their My
Tasks view for the task and submit that as an update.

well employee will never change the remaining time and will show as
everthing is on time even if task was 1 hour starting at 10am and finishing
at 11am, employee finished at 11:30 he will simply update progress to 100%
and submit and what i will know is it completed in time where as it was not...

how can i automatically know that it was suppose to finish and get update as
finished and what was original time schedule for minus time reported with
update = actual time task took...

also how can person start the task there must be a button to press that i am
beginning to work on this task which is scheduled at 10 am

If you are asking your resources to report time as "Percent of work
complete" then you will not be able to see if a task was started on time or
not. In order to accurately see where a resource actually worked on an
activity is to ask them to report time as "Hours of work done per period"
and set the Reporting Display to "Resources should report their hours worked
every day". These two settings are found under PWA>Server Settings>Task
Settings and Display.

This is a more tedious effort for the resources but is more accurate. This
will likely require change management and resource training.

To capture actual start and actual finish while using percent complete
tracking, you should add the Actual Start and Actual Finish Field to the My
Tasks view to capture this information from the resources. As Jonathan
suggests, using effort-based tracking provides a much more accurate record.

Yes that make sense that resource put hours in place of % but still this does
not solve the problem, every empoyee uses most of the time outlook 2003 and
they are very failier with this tool.. and outlook addin is great from
project 2007 but has three things missing "Start Task" "Stop Task" and notes
that are written by project manager since you cannot accomodate full details
of the task in one line and them manager has to print or e mail the details
of thask.. and not everyone likes openning webbrowser and working with two
toold PWA and outlook if project can be fully collaborated in outlook then
mooooaaahhhhhh.... will have fun.. the best schedulign tool in the world...
