How can you turn off email notification on a specific folder?

I am tired of hearing the little beep when I get spam. I would really like to
turn off notification for that particular folder.
Thanks

A complete answer depends on knowing your Outlook version and, possibly, the
folder about which you speak.

For what version of Outlook? Outlook 2003 doesn't do this.

The e-mail notification event is not based on a particular folder. It is
based on getting ANY new inbound e-mails. If Outlook gets any new mails,
the new mail notification event gets triggered (if enabled). The new mail
notification event occurs BEFORE the mail is delivered to any folder, so it
occurs before you can even use a rule to move it to a different folder.

Except in Outlook 2003 SP2. I believe SP2 changes the order of the events
so that rules execute and then, if any messages remain in the Inbox, the
New Mail Notification event executes.

Oooh, sounds good if true. Unfortunately I'm no longer contracted somewhere
that is using OL2003 so I can only test using OL2002. The OP never bothered
to mention WHICH version of Outlook that they are using.

An easy test would be to define a rule (at the top of the rules list) that
moved all mails to a holding folder, send a test mail to self (which would
get moved out of the Inbox on delivery), and see if the new mail
notification triggered.

That's why I asked the version ;-)

For Outlook 2003 the sound will only play for the default Inbox folder. IIRC
it was SP1 that changed when rules were triggered (after vs before junk
e-mail filter), it didn't effect the sound notification though. I've had
some weird sound notification behavior with an upgraded profile but
recreating it solved it.

Now that you mention it, I think you're correct.
