how do i add a task that automatically changes duration to match the overall
project duration? for example, an administrative assistant will be assigned
at the beginning of the project and will continue until the end of the
project - regardless of subsequent changes to the schedule. another way of
looking at this is how can i assign resources to the Project Summary Task (ID
0)?

Ed,
One way to do it is to use what is called a "hammock task". Go to the
MVP website at: http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
and look at FAQ 19 - Hammock tasks

Resources cannot be assigned to the Project Summary Task but they can be
assigned to a top level summary line that you create. Just create a top
level task and then indent the rest of the plan under it. Although
assigning resources to a summary line can be done, it is generally
considered a poor practice and is not recommended.

Hope this helps.
