How do I apply My Template to an imported Word document?

I have tweaked and customized a template for Publisher, and now I want to
apply that template to a Word document that I am importing. How do I do this?
I saved the template where Publisher wanted in My Templates and gave it a
category, but when I open a new file and import the Word Document, the
template goes away. AND when I try to apply a template to my imported Word
document, I don't get the option of accessing My Templates. Please help...

Word templates and Publisher templates are not compatible. You might have
success with a copy and paste. If you want Word content in your Publisher
document, you can import, but the format will be lost.
Try this, create a text box in your Publisher template, right-click, click
change text, text file, browse to the Word file.

Thanks for your response, but while helpful there is a point of clarity I
should make to see if there isn't a better answer...I'm not using a Word
template, I have a template in Publisher that does appear under My Templates
when creating a new document.

While what you posted does allow me to place the Word file content into my
template in Publisher, it is most unfriendly. Is there any other advise to
ease the pain? Can Word files be made into content chunks in Publisher and
then inserted into my template in Publisher? My original question was after
importing a Word doc into Publisher, when I go to apply a template I do not
see access to My Templates, where the one I created in Publisher is saved, so
the possibility of that is also still in question.

When you go file, new, does the *My Templates* appear in the Getting Started
menu? If not you will have to browse to the templates. They are stored in a
hidden folder similar to this:
Vista
C:\Users\<<user>>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates
XP
C:\Documents and Settings\<<user>>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

You cannot *apply* a template, you can insert content into your template.

I'm having the same exact problem. Did you find a solution? When I pull Word into their templates, the formating is converted perfectly. But when I try to apply my template, or import a word document into my template, I can not find it. Let me know if you had any luck. Thanks.

Can you please ask your question again. What can't you find? What version
Publisher are you using. You are responding to a post dated a year ago.

The templates are found in the template folder (hidden).
Vista
C:\Users\<<user>>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates
XP
C:\Documents and Settings\<<user>>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

If you are using 2007, Tools, Options, Check *Show Publication Types when
starting Publisher*. Then File, New, Click *My Templates.*
