How do I correct a Runtime Error message situation?

Shortly after begining to compose a Word document, I receive a box message:
"Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office10\WINDORD.exe. Abnormal program termination."

What's wrong and how do I correct it? I've been using Word for years and
never had this happen.
