How do I create a field containing the word count of just one style?

If you go to "insert" --> "quick parts" --> "Field" then an option comes
up to insert "NumWords" to allow you to insert a field containing the
total number of words in the document.

BUT

I have a number of styles in my document, one of which is "Normal" (as
you might expect!).

SO ... I would like to insert a field that contains a count of only the
words in the paragraphs with the style "Normal".

How do I do that?

Thanks :)

Sorry, there is no field in Word that can do that. You can get the count of
words in any particular style, you just can't insert it into the document as a
field.

In Word 2007, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S or click the little arrow in the bottom
right corner of the Styles group on the Home ribbon. In earlier versions, click
Format > Styles and Formatting. That displays the Styles task pane.

In the task pane, right-click the Normal style and choose "Select all <n>
Instances". The Word Count in the status bar (or the Tools > Word Count dialog
in earlier versions) will show you the number of words in the selected text.

Additional comment:
The “Select All said:
“Keep track of formatting†is turned on (Word 2007: Office button > Word
Options > Advanced category > Editing options group > “Keep track of
formattingâ€).

If “Keep†track of formatting is turned off, you will instead see the text
“Select All: Not Currently Used†(and the command is disabled).
