how do i create a line across a page in Word?

In a word document, do you know how to make a line across a page when there
is no wording above the line? the line is to seperate topics and make the
document look more professional.

I just hold down the dash key for a couple of seconds, press enter, and
voila', Word's Autotext feature puts a line across the page.

That's not AutoText but AutoFormat As You Type (automatic borders), and most
of us have that horror turned off.

You could add a paragraph border. Or see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/LinesInForms.htm for other ways to
create lines. There's also a "Horizontal Line" feature in Format | Borders
and Shading, but these are primarily intended for Web pages, and I have
found them sometimes problematical to deal with.

You could use the line tool in the drawing toolbar. Hold the shift key down
when you draw the line to get a horizontal line.
