How do I display an incremental bar code within a word document?

I have a word 2003 document that has ten lines on the page.I want to add a 4
digit number to each line and have it displayed as both the number I entered
and as a bar code.
All I can find within Word help is how to add a zip code bar code.

Thank you
Mike

The PostNet barcode is all you can find because that's the only kind of
barcode Word is capable of generating on its own. For anything else, you
need to get a barcode font (for the correct kind of barcode, of which there
are a dozen or more) or an external application that generates barcodes as
graphics files.

See http://www.adams1.com/pub/russadam/share.html for explanations and links
to free, shareware, and commercial resources.

Mike,

The easiest way to create sequential barcodes is with a Word Mail
Merge using data from Excel, and then convert the data to barcodes
with a commercial barcode package.
For example, using our BarCodeWiz Barcode ActiveX Control, you would:

1. Enter your sequential numbers in a spreadsheet column and save the
Excel file.
2. Start a Mail Merge from within Word and select the Excel file as
your data source.
3. Insert the data column into your Word document, and surround it
with square brackets, like this: [<<barcode_column>>]
Now, if you'd like to enter the barcode number next to the barcode
image, you would enter it twice (once with and once without square
brackets), like below:
<<barcode_column>> [<<barcode_column>>]

4. Click on "Convert All" on the toolbar to create the barcodes.

If you'd like to see our video tutorial that shows this step by step,
please take a look here (click on Microsoft Word / Mail Merge in the
video selection):
