How do I find CP in Project 2003?

Hi everyone I just found this great board

I know scheduling some but am new to MS Project. I come from a too
that had auto processes build in

I have been out of scheduleing for a few years and I forgot some basi
things

How do I find the CP without using the given MS CP filter
I was in a pmo class and someone said never to use the MS CP filter an
they do it a different way with constraints or deadlines.
Can you give me a basic step by step instructions for correctl
finding the cp please in project 2003
What constraints and/or deadlines do I set and where? etc..
(i understand what cp is

Do I use this same technique for backward and forward passes

How do I do a backward pass when I have set everything in the schedul
from the start date
Do set the schedule from project end date then have to manually set th
constraints to as late as possible

_A_few_other_misc._?s:

1. I am scheduling from the project start date. Do I still have to do
backward pass to check for negative float before I baseline it

2.How do I lock the Baseline columns in project so these dates cant b
changed

3.How do I get LOE off the CP
I linked it to the start and finish milestone and tried linking it t
the first and last tasks (which is valid) and it is still on th
critical path. What should I tie it to

4. What is meant by the first second and third critical paths

5. Is there an easy way to find circular loops in MS project

6. Is there an easy way to find out of sequence tasks? ex. successo
started before pred (FS) completed

Thanks for your help on getting me refreshed :

Hi,

A lot of misunderstandings and some nonsence!
There is no reason whatsoever not to use the CP filter, NONE..

Furthermore, don't worry about forward and backward passes. Project ALWAYS
performs both, it's not even an option you have to set.
That means that you can at all times insert the columns (fields) Early
Start, Late Start, Early Finish and Late Finish.
Total Slack is the difference betwen Early and Late dates
Critical tasks have total slack 0 or negative
This limit can be modified in Tools, Options, Calculations.

Youc an show the criticl path in the graphical party of the gantt Chart View
via he Gantt Chart Wizard (rightmost button on the Formatting toolbar)

Hope this helps
