How do I format a CD booklet in Microsoft Word? The only paper formats I see
are U.S. letter and legal and A4.

A CD booklet is essentially a two fixed size cell table with a border as a
cutout guide and can be printed on any paper size that will fit it.
Word is a poor tool for this job. Publisher is better, but Surething CD
labeller is *much* better.
If you have Nero, it too has a labelling tool that you could use.

techno-dummy. I only know enough to get by. Can you tell me where to get a CD
booklet templet or something" It'll be about 10 or 12 pages. I have it saved

If you have Word 2002 or above, use the "Book fold" feature. If an earlier
version, see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/BookletPrinting.htm. Very
likely you will have to set your booklet up with larger margins on a larger
paper size, then trim accordingly.

Hi, Suzanne! Thanks for your response. I am in Europe, and everything is
metric. I just want to create a simple music CD booklet which will contain
the lyrics to some of my songs. If I can get as far as you've directed me
(hopefuully) please tell me in .mm what measurements I should use to create
a music CD booklet. I also have Publisher, if you think that would be better.

I thought that Doug was quite rude, and I don't understand using a "ruler",
so I guess I'm simply not going to get an answer that a non-expert

Perhaps you call it a "rule"? It's just a piece of wood, metal, or plastic
marked in inches or centimeters. You use it to find the dimensions of the CD
case insert. You then set up your publication in Publisher to be that size.
Publisher does booklets nicely and will print crop marks for you on your
oversized paper.

shoulder that you think anyone might want to help you. If you write in a
public newsgroup it is *everyone's* business. You are quoting from Doug's
standard signature block, which appears on all his messages to deter people
from contacting him directly unless they wish to pay for his time - which he
gives freely to those who ask questions here. His reply may have been brief,
but it was neither rude nor inaccurate.
As I said in my first reply Word is not a good tool to do this. Word does
not work well with custom paper sizes, so you are going to have to use a
standard paper size and use a ruler to measure the CD booklet and transfer
those measurements to the document to produce a document the size of a CD
booklet page - then you can use the method Suzanne linked to produce a
multi-page booklet. Word does not care what measurement system you use. You
can insert inches of cm (or others) directly in any measurement box as long
as you indicate what they are eg 5 cm 3" etc.

land and "their" house and pay for everything with the possible exception of
air. I reluctantly accept this fact, but I do need money like Bill Gates. No
one does. So I guess I'm just so tired of seeing people putting money above
love that it just sickens me. You don't know what I've been through, so I can
somewhat understand your reaction. I didn't mean to insult anyone. I worked
for 35 years and in 2001 I had my substantial life's savings plundered by the
Swiss-German government for the pleasure of one of their wealthiest citizens.
I worked as a musical composer for him for 3 years, and then he refused to
pay me, falsely claiming that I hadn't recorded anything at all. You can hear

Word users. We do not work for Microsoft and do not take payment for our
assistance. What we do object to is people posting unsolicited questions to
our private e-mail addresses (which we do not hide despite the problems it
causes with spam) and that is the prime consideration behind Doug's sig.
I am sorry to hear you were ripped off. It happens. I once worked freelance
for a magazine which went bust owing me several thousand pounds - then
started up again under a new company the following month. I never saw any of
that money.
The fact remains that it is going to be fiddly to produce a CD booklet in
Word. See if you can beg steal or borrow a copy of Microsoft Publisher which
makes producing booklets much simpler and will lead you by the hand along
the way. Try eBay (though beware there are sharks there too).

indeed sue me. I went to trial and was quicklly acquitted, even as a hated

the warning in my sig ("Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all
follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit."). Anyone who posts
consistently in these NGs is very familiar with the phenomenon of getting
email that begins, "I saw that you have posted a lot of answers in the
newsgroups, so I am hoping you can help me with my problem." If I send any
answer at all, it is likely to be, "When I see your question in the
newsgroups, I will be happy to answer it."
Obviously, the signature block becomes more prominent (and hence subject to
misunderstanding) when a reply is short, and many of mine are because, when
possible, I refer users to an online article that will provide a more
thorough answer.
