How do I get a TOC to automatically link to the sections in the d.

How do I get a Table of Contents that is created by custom headings to
automatically link to the sections in the doucment without having to insert
hyperlinks at each individual spot. I also want the page numbers to show.

I know on an earlier version of Microsoft Word this was an automatic feature
(At least it automatically happend on two doucments I've completed in the
past).

It is still an automatic feature, but you now, by default, have to
Ctrl+click to follow the hyperlinks (you should be seeing a ScreenTip that
tells you this). This new feature was added to make it easier to edit the
display text of hyperlinks. If you want to restore the previous behavior,
you can clear the appropriate check box on the Edit tab of Tools | Options.
